Aircooled.Net "Better Than Stock" (BTS) New 1600cc Single and Dual Port VW Engine Long Block, Type 1, 2, and 3 is the one you would build yourself if you had the time, knowledge, or special tools! We have designed this engine to be of a higher quality than the OEM VW Stock long blocks, with tighter tolerances and better balancing. We only offer solid lifters (we do not sell, use, nor recommend hydraulic lifters).
The ACN BTS engine is far better than any "rebuild" available anywhere. These long blocks will fit all cars, but the DP engines are a straight swap for 1971 and newer Beetles and Ghias, 1971 T-2s, and 1967 and newer T-3s. The SP engines are a straight swap for the 1966-70 Type 1s and 1963-70 Type 2s.
We believe a stock car should get a new long block, UNLESS you have to have matching #s for authenticity and correctness for your year/model car. Our new engines have NEW parts. Engines described as "Rebuilt" often contain a lot of used parts. "Rebuilt" is subject to some creative Interpretation, and many rebuilders sell you "re-assembled" engines, so watch out! Lower budget "Rebuilders" get used parts, clean, paint, install, then call it "Rebuilt", to sell to customer! The only REBUILT component that we might have occasion to use on our longblocks are the top quality DPR Rebuilt German crankshafts, Flywheels, and/or Connecting Rods. Rebuilt components, if used, are done to race specification for the smoothest and most reliable engine possible.
These engines are complete from valve cover to valve cover, but do NOT come with a clutch, pressure plate, distributor drive pinion (you must install one), fuel system, intake, cooling, ignition, or exhaust parts. The mounting stud for the thermostat is NOT INSTALLED NOR TAPPED, but the case does have the boss in place for drilling and tapping to install this stud (we recommend the functional thermostat be installed). Solid lifters need to be adjusted just like the engine you have now (set at .006" cold). You won't believe how much power a "stock" engine has!
Installation Disclaimer: Installation instructions are NOT included. If you are new to working on VWs and installing your own longblock, you should be prepared for the "learning curve". Aircooled VWs are not "plug and play devices", and invariably you will encounter issues requiring adaptation and/or modification. We recommend that you get yourself a copy of the Bentley Manual for your vehicle and keep it on hand reference and instruction on the basics. Of course, our Tech Advisor will be happy to assist you via email with any install and break-in questions you may have. But as always, since we are not actually performing the installation on site, any and all information provided remotely by representatives of Aircooled.Net is provided for USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. When you proceed with installation of a longblock or any other product(s) purchased from Aircooled.Net you are explicitly accepting any and all liability associated with the possible outcomes.
Aircooled.Net Built-To-Order Warranty - Limited 6 month/6K Mile Coverage:
Aircooled.Net Longblocks come with a Limited 6 month/6k mile Warranty. Aircooled.Net Longblocks are tested and run on a dyno prior to shipment, so are guaranteed to be in full working order upon delivery. Be sure to follow all delivery acceptance procedures to protect against carrier damage - once you sign for delivery any carrier-related damage is NOT covered by warranty. The warranty also does NOT include issues that arise from errors or omissions associated with INSTALLATION and/or TUNING.
We have sold many long blocks since 1998, and have only had two verifiable "build issues", and once the issue was identified, we took care of it under warranty. In the very unlikely event that you have a warranty problem due to component defect, or build error - please contact us promptly with photos and details. We will begin the troubleshooting and resolution process and will work to resolve any verifiable defect as quickly as possible. Longblock warranty does NOT cover any third party or incidental expenses, including, but not limited to installation/removal charges, storage, towing, or lodging.
**IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PURCHASERS OF LONG BLOCKS!!** The involvement of a 3rd party installer (including a mechanic or VW shop!!) is grounds for warranty claim refusal. The warranty on your Longblock is INVALIDATED/VOIDED if anyone OTHER than the purchaser installs the longblock into your vehicle. Are you wondering why?
Well, generally speaking, if you are having a mechanic build or install an engine for you, or do any sort of work on your vehicle, you should always buy the parts/products FROM THE MECHANIC or REPAIR SHOP. That allows the mechanic/shop to provide you with the full breadth of available warranty on both their labor and on the integrity of the parts that they supply to you. We have many mechanic shops that purchase parts from us to do builds and repairs for their customers, and we provide them with an appropriate "jobber discount" so that they can make enough profit so that they then will undertake the inherent responsibility of properly inspecting and treating the parts that they are working with/installing.
When you instead opt to purchase your own parts and then hand them off to someone else to do your repair, build, or install, you are undertaking additional risk because doing so VOIDS ANY AVAILABLE WARRANTY that is otherwise normally provided by Aircooled.Net. Our Aircooled.Net Retail Warranty is provided on the basis of the reasonable assumption that, unless otherwise declared, you are the "end-user" and will be installing your own parts. This is because the aircooled VW community is 95% do-it-yourself hobbyists, and so if our customer (the end-user) runs into a problem during self-installation or self-build, they will have first-hand knowledge of how the work was performed and how the problem arose - making them accountable for their own mistakes - AND they are more likely to use the services of our free product tech and installation support which provides 40 years of know-how including the important tips and tricks that allow our customers to avoid making mistakes that compromise otherwise perfectly sound products. Most mechanics who make a "mistake" while installing parts that were purchased and provided by his client, upon which he or she did not make any profit, have no desire to have to absorb the cost of the mistake, and so instead will invariably "blame the parts" rather than take responsibility.
