If you want a nicer installation, you have to run a wire from the dash to the engine, and you can then use this wire to give you a visual (warning light), audio (warning buzzer), or both!

This unit fits into the stock dipstick tube, replacing the stock dipstick. If you want an easy to install oil temperature gauge, this is it!

This version fits upright Type 1 engines, which were in all Beetles and Ghias, as well as in Bus models up through the year 1971 (in North America). This sump measures 11" Wide, 10 1/2" Long, and 1 7/8" Tall.

NOTE: There is a boss cast into the sump for a oil temperature sending unit, but it is NOT drilled/tapped. If you want to mount your sender here, you must drill and tap the sump for the sending unit's threads you are going to use. Normal sizes are 1/8" NPT or 1/4" NPT.

3.5 Quart Thin Line Super Capacity Deep Sump, Type 1 and 3 Engines, Internally Reinforced, 00-9143-0 is a good quality sump, in a 3.5 quart wide version. This provides additional oil capacity for fast street engines, without hanging down like traditional 3 and 4 quart deep sumps. When you bolt this onto the bottom of your vw engine, you increase the oil capacity from 2.5 to 6 quarts, and the chance of sucking all the oil out (before it has a chance to run back down) is minimized! This sump comes with all the mounting hardware, and the mounting is well engineered to make it a relatively easy job as far as sumps go. This sump only adds a mere 2.75" to the bottom of your engine case, for maximum ground clearance, while adding 3.5qts of oil capacity!
