ECONO Oil Pressure Sending Unit (Idiot Light Switch), Stock, All Aircooled Models, 021-919-081B grounds the idiot light circuit which turns the light on your dash, when oil pressure drops below 2.5psi. These do go bad, either by leaking or not opening or closing properly.
We recommend buying the better quality Mexican unit but these Chinese made units will do in a pinch or if you are short on funds.

To use this adapter you must remove the galley plug on the supply side of the pump (RH of the engine case) and tap it to 1/2" NPT. This provides a 1/8" NPT thread for the majority of oil temperature senders, and this location will not block or hinder oil flow to the oil pump.

Typically this is when you want to use a 1-Pole VDO Oil Pressure Gauge along WITH the stock idiot light sending unit, since the VDO 2-pole senders have idiot light pressure too high. The VDO idiot light sender goes on at 8-10psi, the stock VW sender is set to trigger at 2.5-3psi. Low pressure like this is NORMAL for the VW at hot idle.
