Eyeball Engineering Truss Bar (Torque Bar), 1 1/2" .120" Wall TIG Welded Chromoly Steel, 1961+ Bug, Superbeetle, and Ghia is engineered to limit flex in the chassis under load. By connecting the shock towers & frame horns together you transfer more power to the ground normally lost in wheel hop. Fits 1961 and Later Beetles, Super Beetles, and Ghias, both Swing Axle and IRS Rear Suspensions. This is a 100% complete BOLT IN kit, with no welding required!
Kit includes all necessary hardware for installation. Made in USA too!
This superbly engineered product replaces the traditional "traction bar" or Kafer Cup Brace by connecting the rear shock towers to the frame horns. A true "street part" clears the transmission, body, and heater boxes! This kit is recently upgraded to make installation easy WITHOUT WELDING. This product weighs under 10lbs, and is powder coated black!
This product does NOT fit Type 181s (Things).
Wheel hop is caused by a lot of things, but the most common is the engine and transmission "bouncing" up and down during acceleration. The problem is the frame horns (which support everything) are just hanging out the back of the car! When you have a decent amount of power, the weight of the engine and transmission bounce down, and the frame horns spring them back up (unloading the tires). This happens fast, and in extreme cases, your frame horns will BEND (look for VWs where the pea shooters aren't in their notches anymore). The traditional solution is a "traction bar", where the engine is supported by the rear of the car. This is functional, but you lose ground clearance, and you sometimes have to drill holes in the body to mount the brackets! Furthermore, cars that are severely lightened have no metal or STRENGTH back there to hold the engine up, so a traction bar is worthless. Traction bars are also one more thing to get in the way of that killer exhaust system you want, and have to be removed/installed every engine R & R!
This kit solves the engine support problem. Furthermore, by tying in the shock towers together, it's like a "strut brace" for the rear of the car, preventing chassis deflection under hard cornering; this is why it was developed in the first place, two birds with one stone so to speak!
WARNING: this Torque Bar will NOT clear the longer Auto-stick starters (SR-17).
