Brake Hose, Front, EUROPEAN, 1971-79 Superbeetle and 71-79 Type 2, 340mm F/F, 281-611-775BGR. Rubber brake hoses can fail in 2 ways; one is to split or leak, but another common failure is to clog or restrict on the inside, which holds brakes on!

This "failure" is not readily apparent on inspection, but if you have abnormal wear of the brake pads or shoes on one wheel, look closer. Jack up the wheel off the ground so it can freewheel. Hit the brakes a few times and release. Now, does the wheel turn freely? If not, crack the bleeder valve and see if the wheel can then move. If you had pressure (SQUIRT!) and now it's free, you likely have a "valving" brake hose, and replacement should solve the problem!

Brake Hose, Rear, Swing Axle Type 1 and Type 2, AND Right IRS Type 2, 270mm, 211-611-775B Most people are aware of hose failure when they burst or balloon, but a more common (and hard to diagnose) is when they swell INSIDE, "valving" brake fluid.

This flex hose goes from the metal brake line to the metal brake line on the axle tube. To check brake hoses, jack up the rear of the car and spin the wheel. Have someone hit the brake pedal, the wheel will stop. Now let up off the brake pedal and try to spin the tire. If the wheel spins freely, the hose is fine. If the wheel is tight, crack open the bleeder valve, and if the wheel spins NOW, you have a bad hose. Old hoses tend to collapse inward allowing fluid out because of the pressure, but not allowing it to return because of lesser pressure from the springs. The hose is valving and must be replaced.

Motive Power Bleeder, 1964+ Type 1, 1968 and Later Type 2, All Type 3 and 4, 0104 is a great item. It uses low pressure (Hand pump the bottle) so you can properly bleed your brakes without a helper! Pressure moves fluid and bubbles out of the system!

We recommend 10psi pressure, that's more than enough, and minimizes risk of blowing a supply line off (big mess!). Use for 1963+ Type 1, 1968 and Later Type 2, All Type 3 and 4.
