After honing and final cleaning of the cylinders, wipe the cylinderwalls with a lint-free rag using a lacquer thinner or brake cleaner. Then wipe the cylinders with a light penetrating oi, and wipe them dry with a clean rag (to ensure the crosshatch is clean).

Apply the Quick Seat with your finger to the entire cylinder. If the cylinder wall was clean the powder will turn the cylinder a greenish tint. If the powder turns the cylinder a black or silverish color, the crosshatch was still dirty, and you need to reclean the cylinders and re-apply.

It's important for you to know that when we balance the pistons and wrist pins, they are in MATCHED PAIRS. You must make sure you do not swap pins and pistons during the cleaning and assembly process! Pins are sometimes 1.5g out, and we often have a heavy pin with a light piston, and a light pin with a heavy piston. If you mix them you no longer have a balanced set!

These pistons have a 10cc DISH in the piston top. For reference, 94mm Bus pistons have 11cc dish if they are NOS or used KS pistons. The 914 US spec 94mm piston has either a 3 or 7cc dish, according to the year of the engine. These have a pin height of 1.398" (35mm).

Though these FIT the Bus and Vanagon 2.0L Engines, we do not recommend the 96s when used in this application, the cylinder walls are thin and their reliability is less than great. The 96mm P&Cs work fine in 914s and in Type 4 engines converted to upright use when used in Type 1s and dune buggies. If you have a VW Bus or Vanagon, we recommend that you use our 94 x 71mm Hypereutectic P&Cs, which have a stock thickness cylinder for maximum reliability and stock resistance to any issues due to overheating.

Heads must be the 1.8/2.0L Bore size to fit these cylinders. JE Forged Racing Pistons are extremely high quality, and will withstand most any RPM you throw at them. Other engine components will likely suffer an RPM failure before these pistons do! If you are going to be using a stroker crank with over 78mm stroke, we recommend a 22mm rod for a higher pin height, and easier deck height compatibility.
