Originally VW used a strong strut on one side, and a weak one on the other, which really makes no sense. Just use these slightly stiffer than OEM struts on both sides. We strongly recommend that you replace both struts at the same time, if you only replace one it significantly shortens the lifespan since it's having to work so hard, and ultimately costs you more money.

Original Hatch Struts were 251-829-331A for the left, and 251-829-332 for the right.
