NOTICE

Supply-chain disruptions have hampered our ability to restock items reliably. Many sought after parts are backordered without ETA info -- backorders with unreliable restock ETAs are VERY frustrating for us as well. We are doing what we can to adapt and recover from the changes to our industry, but currently many shipments are delayed and our response time to emails are slow (we are severely short-staffed). Even if we can't reply to your email promptly, please trust that we ARE working on getting delayed items back into stock for you, and we will contact you when we have any updated news. We appreciate your continued support and understanding.

When you place an online order request, you can opt to have in-stock items processed for shipment in advance of any backordered items. For out of stock items, you are NOT CHARGED, you are automatically added to the reservation waitlist, and we post stock status / backorder info to your Order Status/History Detail View in your online Customer Account. You can email to cancel un-shipped/un-paid items at any time as long as they are not special order or made/machined-to-order.

Please only continue if you are prepared to be PATIENT. Requested items could be delayed by supplier-level backorder, and we usually aren't given reliable ETA information. We work diligently to source and fulfill your request for items as best we can.

Thermostat for Cooling Flaps, 1958-74 Upright Engines, 65-70C, EACH, 111-119-159A
Thermostat for Cooling Flaps, 1958-74 Upright Engines, 65-70C, EACH, 111-119-159A

Thermostat for Cooling Flaps, 1958-74 Upright Engines, 65-70C, EACH, 111-119-159A is a critical but often missing piece of the cooling system. If you do not have a thermostat on your engine your engine is running too cold most of the time!

These are brand new thermostats for the Type I air cooled engine! Not used, Not NOS, these are BRAND NEW , FITTINGS, TOP & BOTTOM, & BELLOWS. This gives you the best of everything!

These have the right liquid inside for the right expansion at the right temperature. And if it ever does fail, it fails "safe" (flaps full open), unlike the new VW "Mexico" version that you see for sale that fails in the unsafe position, with flaps full closed (engine go boom!), should the wax inside leak out.

When back ordered these can take a while to get back into stock. Production is VERY SLOW. These are Made in USA, but takes 3 companies in 3 states to make the PARTS for it, then they have to be assembled.

The body of these are made from Phosphor-bronze, which is less prone to fatigue (cracking) from thermal cycling compared to the original brass bellows. These are also more resistant to corrosion!

We strongly recommend you do not mess around with a 40-50yo part that your engine dearly relies on. These come with a 2 year warranty for replacement.

All dimensions and threads are the same as stock, for a 100% easy R&R. The top male thread on the thermostat is 7x1mm. The top fitting for the control rod is 4 x .7mm. The bottom female thread is 8 x 1.25mm.

We have these thermostats in both the 65-70C AND 80-85C version. Originally the 80-85C was used on FI engines, but all engines will benefit from the hotter temperature, ESPECIALLY regarding heat output in the Winter. We have seen heat output from heater boxes TRIPLE, when adding a thermostat to an engine that previously didn't have one! Your engine will last longer if you have a functional thermostat and cooling flaps system as the German Engineers designed it.

5 of 5 Great OEM replacement September 18, 2017
Reviewer: Robert Heiter from Fairbanks, AK United States
My original Wahler 65-70 thermostat finally gave up on my 73 Super this year. I had been looking for a replacement but really wanted an original, and have not heard good things about the cheap Mexican style thermostats . The used OEM are expensive and frankly a roll of the dice. I found your new USA built and it is perfect. Installed it last week using the original bracket and have got it adjusted. Now, the flaps open at the same rate as the choke, engine warms up faster and a super smooth running engine. I get heat in the cab faster and warmer also. Great product and a good price. Hope it last as long as the Wahler,44 years.
