OUR ONLINE CHECKOUT is CLOSED and we are NOT accepting any NEW orders at this time.

We are still fulfilling and shipping previously submitted and/or delayed order requests (as product availability allows) UNTIL NOVEMBER 15th 2022.

But after November 15th, all still pending backordered unshipped items will be automatically CANCELLED **(except for any special ordered drop-shipped or made/machined-to-order items).

Our ability to respond to emails is greatly hampered by being under-staffed during this downsize transition time. But we continue to endeavor to answer email inquiries as best we can. And we will continue responding to emails through until early March 2023 because we are wholly committed to resolving any other issues that may arise from previous sales. It is still UNCERTAIN, but we may re-open a substantially downsized version of our store again in the Spring of 2023.

We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding during this period of restructuring and/or closing. And a huge thank you to all of you whose support and loyalty we have been the beneficiary of over the 23 years that we have worked diligently to support the information and parts needs of the aircooled VW community!

Budget/ECONO Hide-Out Muffler (Hideaway) for Type 1 Street Headers
Budget/ECONO Hide-Out Muffler (Hideaway) for Type 1 Street Headers
Ceramic Coated one shown in picture.

This is a decent budget-minded (Economy) choice muffler for mild street cars! This muffler is placed just outboard of your 1/2 valve cover, the tailpipe exits at the lower lip of the right fender (see additional notes in Product Details below). Muffler support hangs from heater box mounting nut on 1/2 cylinder head. You do have to remove the muffler to adjust your valves, but it IS worth the effort.

Ceramic Coating is a life EXTENDER, not a lifetime coating. In other words, you should expect the coating to make the pipes last longer than normal but don't expect the coating to be shiny or to last forever. Normal lifespan varies according to where you live and if you drive the car in the winter in the salt zones. Salt zone, daily driver summer and winter the systems should last about 4 to 5 years normally.

Item Features
This muffler is relatively quiet and non-restrictive. Our only complaint is if you drive or park on dirt or gravel, the downward facing exhaust exit will raise dust off the ground, which isn't a problem if you are driving forwards, but if you back up it winds up on your car and in your air filters!

OTHER THAN THAT, this is an decent muffler choice for mild street cars if you are on a budget. The dust issue is not a problem for folks that drive only on concrete and paved roads

The merged model is the version for Merged Comp Exhausts when you aren't using a stinger!

5 of 5 Hide-Out Muffler July 28, 2012
Reviewer: David Gilchrist from Orem, UT United States
These are terrific for the street! They are quiet and up out of the way, so no ground clearance problems and no dealing with positioning your muffler. I have installed several of these as they come. But these mufflers also lend themselves to a slick mod. With some cutting and welding and extending the tail pipe so it exits out the twin exhaust cut outs like stock.
