OUR ONLINE CHECKOUT is CLOSED and we are NOT accepting any NEW orders at this time.

We are still fulfilling and shipping previously submitted and/or delayed order requests (as product availability allows) UNTIL NOVEMBER 15th 2022.

But after November 15th, all still pending backordered unshipped items will be automatically CANCELLED **(except for any special ordered drop-shipped or made/machined-to-order items).

Our ability to respond to emails is greatly hampered by being under-staffed during this downsize transition time. But we continue to endeavor to answer email inquiries as best we can. And we will continue responding to emails through until early March 2023 because we are wholly committed to resolving any other issues that may arise from previous sales. It is still UNCERTAIN, but we may re-open a substantially downsized version of our store again in the Spring of 2023.

We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding during this period of restructuring and/or closing. And a huge thank you to all of you whose support and loyalty we have been the beneficiary of over the 23 years that we have worked diligently to support the information and parts needs of the aircooled VW community!

Engle Straight Cut Cam Gears, Steel, 6608
Engle Straight Cut Cam Gears, Steel, 6608

Straight Cut Cam Gears remove the thrust load off the camshaft bearings, which is a problem with dual springs, and especially with high lift camshafts. These require less HP to drive than stock (helical) gears. Adjust at 0, +3, and -3 degrees!

These gears are designed for serious engines! These gears are made in the USA from 1141 Carbon Steel billets. They also feature a back cut crank gear to save rotating mass.

Make sure during gear installation that you check a couple things prior to installing the crank gear onto the crankshaft. Sometimes the woodruff key is too wide, or the slot in the crank is too narrow. This causes the crank to "swell" when the key is hammered into the crank, then the gear is too tight next to the gear. This is a common cause of the gear cracking at the key way, or the more common not known problem of elliptical crank gears, which shows as the cam gear has serious tooth wear in 2 locations 180 degrees from one another on the soft aluminum gear. Make absolutely sure that the crankshaft does not measure larger on either side next to the woodruff key AFTER the key is installed, to avoid this serious build issue!

Please also note: The steel straight cut gears are narrower than aluminum versions. Due to this there is a “lip” or what looks to be a spacer machined into the lower crank gear. This does not take the place of the needed spacer to align the gears. Your will still need to install the stock spacer or a racer spacer.
