OUR ONLINE CHECKOUT is CLOSED and we are NOT accepting any NEW orders at this time.

We are still fulfilling and shipping previously submitted and/or delayed order requests (as product availability allows) UNTIL NOVEMBER 15th 2022.

But after November 15th, all still pending backordered unshipped items will be automatically CANCELLED **(except for any special ordered drop-shipped or made/machined-to-order items).

Our ability to respond to emails is greatly hampered by being under-staffed during this downsize transition time. But we continue to endeavor to answer email inquiries as best we can. And we will continue responding to emails through until early March 2023 because we are wholly committed to resolving any other issues that may arise from previous sales. It is still UNCERTAIN, but we may re-open a substantially downsized version of our store again in the Spring of 2023.

We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding during this period of restructuring and/or closing. And a huge thank you to all of you whose support and loyalty we have been the beneficiary of over the 23 years that we have worked diligently to support the information and parts needs of the aircooled VW community!

Adjustable Voltage Regulator, 1980-91 VW Vanagon (Does not fit Diesel Engines)
Adjustable Voltage Regulator, 1980-91 VW Vanagon (Does not fit Diesel Engines)

Adjustable Voltage Regulator, 1980-91 VW Vanagon (Does not fit Diesel Engines) is a fantastic product! This is easy to install on the back of your stock alternator, and the adjuster is easily accessible. This is a great product to bump the charging voltage, the stock setting is too low, which results in dim lights, erratic operation of all electrical components, is very hard on the alternator, and the battery never fully charges!

ACN RECOMMENDED!

All of these symptoms can be fixed for good by adjusting the charging voltage at your battery to 14.5V, by installing this regulator, it takes 10 minutes to do! Many customers have reported their "charging voltage" in the mid 13 range, which is pitiful! Our personal Vanagon charged at 13.7V, which meant the battery was never fully charged, and headlights were not full brightness! Adjustment is done with a small screwdriver in the hole you see in the back of the regulator; simply rotate the screw clockwise to increase voltage, or counter-clockwise to decrease voltage, you want to shoot for 14.5V AT THE BATTERY.

The regulator is quite sensitive, small adjustments make rapid changes, so go slowly! These regulators are factory preset to 14.5V, which is a great voltage to start with. We do not recommend higher than 14.5V, even though the regulator will adjust up to 15V. You do need a volt meter MEASURING THE BATTERY to properly set the regulator. We strongly discourage using dash gauges for this purpose, since there are too many things that can cause inaccurate readings!

Installation of this part takes no longer than 30 minutes, and you must disconnect the battery prior to installation for safety.

My Vanagon was dying randomly while driving, couldn't figure out the problem. Then I noticed my van wouldn't charge the battery much.  Figured it was the alternator (voltage was only 13.2). Read a forum post about this adjustable voltage regulator being the fix. Wow was it! Fix both issues! The adjustable aspect is key. Took some tweaks but now its spitting out 14.5v and the van runs like a dream. Amazing product.

5 of 5 As advertised! May 12, 2013

Just like the description, we had a battery that I always thought was "weak". I check the voltage at the battery, and it was 13.6V, so ordered this.

Installation took me 15 minutes! The output adjustment is touchy, I had to go back and forth 4 times to get it right. But now our headlights are much brighter, I can't wait until we can afford a South African Grille Kit!
