OUR ONLINE CHECKOUT is CLOSED and we are NOT accepting any NEW orders at this time.

We are still fulfilling and shipping previously submitted and/or delayed order requests (as product availability allows) UNTIL NOVEMBER 15th 2022.

But after November 15th, all still pending backordered unshipped items will be automatically CANCELLED **(except for any special ordered drop-shipped or made/machined-to-order items).

Our ability to respond to emails is greatly hampered by being under-staffed during this downsize transition time. But we continue to endeavor to answer email inquiries as best we can. And we will continue responding to emails through until early March 2023 because we are wholly committed to resolving any other issues that may arise from previous sales. It is still UNCERTAIN, but we may re-open a substantially downsized version of our store again in the Spring of 2023.

We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding during this period of restructuring and/or closing. And a huge thank you to all of you whose support and loyalty we have been the beneficiary of over the 23 years that we have worked diligently to support the information and parts needs of the aircooled VW community!

Rear Truss Bar (Torque Bar, Kafer Cup Brace), 1961 and Newer Beetle, Super Beetle, and Ghia (DOES NOT FIT THING)
Rear Truss Bar (Torque Bar, Kafer Cup Brace), 1961 and Newer Beetle, Super Beetle, and Ghia (DOES NOT FIT THING)

Rear Truss Bar (Torque Bar, Kafer Cup Brace), 1961 and Newer Beetle, Super Beetle, and Ghia (DOES NOT FIT THING) triangulates the shock towers to the end of the frame horns, preventing the transmission and engine from moving during hard acceleration, which prevents dreaded parts-breaking WHEEL HOP! 95% of the $350 KCB bars for less than half the cost! A great deal for the price!

No Welding required! This is a complete bolt-in kit, and comes with all necessary hardware to link the frame horns to the shock towers.

This is designed for Beetles and Ghias, if you have a custom body on a VW chassis, there is no guarantee of fitment. You MAY have fitment issues (interference), if the builder didn't follow the same lines as VW did. This product does NOT fit Type 181s (Things).

Adjustable rod ends allow for adjustability for variations are YOUR car, as well as different pre-load settings based on your needs.

You MAY have to trim/grind the original shock boss area a little bit, not a big deal.

This product is engineered to limit flex in the chassis under load. By connecting the shock towers & frame horns together you transfer more power to the ground normally lost in wheel hop. Fits 1961 and Later Beetles, Super Beetles, and Ghias, both Swing Axle and IRS Rear Suspensions.

This is a 100% complete BOLT IN kit, with no welding required!

This product replaces the traditional "traction bar" or Kafer Cup Brace by connecting the rear shock towers to the frame horns. A true "street part" clears the transmission, body, and heater boxes! This kit is recently upgraded to make installation easy WITHOUT WELDING. This product weighs under 10lbs too!

WARNING: this Torque Bar will NOT clear the longer Auto-stick starters (SR-17).
Also, this product does NOT fit Type 181s (Things).

Wheel hop is caused by a lot of things, but the most common is the engine and transmission "bouncing" up and down during acceleration. The problem is the frame horns (which support everything) are just hanging out the back of the car! When you have a decent amount of power, the weight of the engine and transmission bounce down, and the frame horns spring them back up (unloading the tires). This happens fast, and in extreme cases, your frame horns will BEND (look for VWs where the pea shooters aren't in their notches anymore). The traditional solution is a "traction bar", where the engine is supported by the rear of the car. This is functional, but you lose ground clearance, and you sometimes have to drill holes in the body to mount the brackets! Furthermore, cars that are severely lightened have no metal or STRENGTH back there to hold the engine up, so a traction bar is worthless. Traction bars are also one more thing to get in the way of that killer exhaust system you want, and have to be removed/installed every engine R & R!

This kit solves the engine support problem. Furthermore, by tying in the shock towers together, it's like a "strut brace" for the rear of the car, preventing chassis deflection under hard cornering; this is why it was developed in the first place, two birds with one stone so to speak!

5 of 5 It works! November 20, 2013

Installed this on my '61 bug.  I previously ran an engine brace, may reinstall that later in addition just because, but this is easier if you need to drop the engine...one less thing to remove beforehand!
