The BP5EY spark plug has a V-Groove projected tip, suitable for carbureted and fuel injected aircooled VW engines. The projected tip runs better under all conditions (cold and hot) than conventional spark plug tips do (which tend to shroud the spark).
The V-Groove offers more routes for the spark to travel, resulting in less chances of misfires. This plug is the correct heat range for 90% of our customers driving VW Beetles and Ghias, and even most VW busses and VW Vanagons.
If the engine runs HOT, you can use an NGK "6" instead, being one step colder than the 5.
The BP5EY has 14mm threads, and is 3/4" reach (long). It fits the Type 4 heads, but it also fits the newer Factory VW DP heads, because the 1/2" reach plugs had a tendency to strip, so the 3/4" reach is an improvement.
Heat Range: Stock Heat Range is a "5". "6" is used in busses and Type 3s. "7"s are a really "Hot Street" plug, and "8"s and "9"s are almost exclusively Turbo Use.
The BP7ES spark plug has a projected tip, suitable for carbureted and fuel injected aircooled VW engines. The projected tip runs better under all conditions (cold and hot) than conventional spark plug tips do (which tend to shroud the spark).
This plug is the correct heat range for HOT engines, since it's 2 steps colder than stock.
The BP7ES has 14mm threads, and is 3/4" reach (long). It fits the Type 4 heads, but it also fits the newer Factory VW DP heads, because the 1/2" reach plugs had a tendency to strip, so the 3/4" reach is an improvement.
The B7ES spark plug has a conventional tip, suitable for carbureted and fuel injected aircooled VW engines. The conventional tip will tend to foul easier than the projected top plugs, and also shrouds the spark slightly compared to projected top plugs.
The B7ES has 14mm threads, and is 3/4" reach (long). It fits the Type 4 heads, but it also fits the newer Factory VW DP heads, because the 1/2" reach plugs had a tendency to strip, so the 3/4" reach is an improvement.
The D8EA has 12mm threads, and is 3/4" reach (long). It fits modified VW heads that utilize the smaller plug to make room for huge valves. If your heads use a "Motorcycle Plug" these are an excellent choice.
NGK B5HS Spark Plug, 14 x 1/2" Reach Threads, Conventional Tip, 11/16" Socket is a regular tip spark plug, suitable for 1/2" Reach VW engines. Regular tips are less expensive and give piston clearance that can be a problem with projected tips.
This plug is the correct heat range for stock and mild engines in Type 1s and 3s, being the stock heat range. This is equivalent to a Bosch "8"
The B5HS has 14mm threads, and is 1/2" reach (short).
NGK B7HS Spark Plug, 14 x 1/2" Reach Threads, Conventional Tip, 11/16" Socket is a regular tip spark plug, suitable for 1/2" Reach VW engines. Regular tips are less expensive and give piston clearance that can be a problem with projected tips.
The B7HS has 14mm threads, and is 1/2" reach (short).
The BP6ES has 14mm threads, and is 3/4" reach (long). It fits the Type 4 heads, but it also fits the newer Factory VW DP heads, because the 1/2" reach plugs had a tendency to strip, so the 3/4" reach is an improvement.
We prefer NGK Spark Plugs over Bosch. This plug is an excellent choice for Busses, Vanagons, 914s, and FI cars (FI tends to foul plugs less often than carbureted engines)
The B6ES has 14mm threads, and is 3/4" reach (long). It fits the Type 4 heads, but it also fits the newer Factory VW DP heads, because the 1/2" reach plugs had a tendency to strip, so the 3/4" reach is an improvement.
This plug is the correct heat range for mild engines in Type 1s and 3s, or for Busses, since it's 1 step colder than stock.
The D6EA has 12mm threads, and is 3/4" reach (long). It fits modified VW heads that utilize the smaller plug to make room for huge valves. If your heads use a "Motorcycle Plug" these are an excellent choice.
This plug is the correct heat range for Bus, Type 3, and Hot Street Type 1s and 3s, being one step colder than the the stock heat range. This is equivalent to a Bosch "7"
The B6HS has 14mm threads, and is 1/2" reach (short).
The BP5ES has 14mm threads, and is 3/4" reach (long). It fits the Type 4 heads, but it also fits the newer Factory VW DP heads, because the 1/2" reach plugs had a tendency to strip, so the 3/4" reach is an improvement.
NGK BP6ET Spark Plug, 14 x 3/4" Reach Threads 13/16" Socket is the best spark plug we have found for 14 x 3/4" equipped Type 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, and even Waterboxer engines! The Triple Ground Strap really lengthens plug life, and you'll feel the power too!
At Aircooled.Net we prefer NGK Spark Plugs over Bosch. The BP6ET spark plug has a projected tip, suitable for carbureted and fuel injected aircooled VW engines. The projected tip runs better under all conditions (cold and hot) than conventional spark plug tips do (which tend to shroud the spark).

The DCPR6E has 12mm threads, and is 3/4" reach (long). It fits modified VW heads that utilize the smaller plug to make room for huge valves. If your heads use a "Motorcycle Plug" these are an excellent choice.

Time-Sert inserts are superior in every way to typical "Heli Coil" thread repair kits (which are usually wrapped wire, very weak and troublesome to install!).
Time-Sert inserts are solid, and also have a flared shoulder that prevents leakage, and locks the insert into place without excessive Loctite needed.
The repair process is to drill out the old threads, then use the shoulder cutting tool (To make room for the insert's shoulder on the top), tap the hole, then install the new insert. Hole will be repaired, and will be stronger and better than it was when it was new, due to the larger diameter holding power!
Internal Cable within a "stiff" Exoskeleton do it! We recommend that you loosen your plugs with your ratchet and socket as normal, then push this tool on and bend it so that it routes and aims properly. Now remove the plug. Put the new one in the tool, and it's already aimed for an easy thread starting job, minimizing the risk of cross threading! You'll finish the job with your ratchet and socket again. The Exoskeleton is stiff to hold it's shape, it won't wriggle, flex, or get tweaked if you have to "crank" the internal cable!
