Aircooled.Net Dual Port Stocker Plus VW Engine Long Block, 69mm Counterweighted Crankshaft, Type 1, 2, and 3, 1679cc, 1776cc, 1835cc, or 1914cc based on a forged German 69mm Counterweighted Crankshaft, and it's displacement depends on the bore size you select; 1679cc (MACHINE IN 88mm THICK WALL Bore), 1776cc (90.5mm Bore), 1835cc (92mm THICK WALL Bore), or 1914cc (94mm Bore). All our Piston and Cylinder choices use the thickest cylinder walls available, we do NOT use "Slip In" piston sets under any circumstances! This is a really solid, mild performance engine that you want to build but don't have the time, knowledge, or special tools! We only offer solid lifters, (we do not sell, use, nor recommend hydraulic lifters.)
This longblock is a far nicer engine that the "Magazine Engines" you see for sale for seemingly incredible prices. These long blocks will fit all cars, but the are a direct bolt-in to 1971 and newer Beetles and Ghias, 1971 T-2s, and 1967 and newer T-3s. We only offer these in Dual Port, so make sure you have the correct tin and intake manifold(s).
NEW MEANS NEW! Our new engines have NEW parts. Other "new" longblocks you might be looking at are actually "Rebuilt" and those often contain a lot of used parts. "Rebuilt" is subject to some creative Interpretation, and some rebuilders will even go so far as to sell you a "re-assembled" engine, so watch out! Those low budget "Rebuilders" get used parts, clean, paint, install, then call it "Rebuilt", to sell to customer! The only REBUILT component that we might have occasion to use on our longblocks are the top quality DPR Rebuilt German crankshafts, Flywheels, and/or Connecting Rods. Rebuilt components, if used, are done to race specification for the smoothest and most reliable engine possible.
This ACN Longblock engine features:
  • NEW OEM VW Engine Case (not rebuilt JUNK)
  • OEM German Crankshaft, that is Counterweighted.
  • Rebuilt OEM German Connecting Rods
  • Your Cam Grind of choice (specify in special instructions during checkout; we will assist in any engine specification decisions you may have).
  • New lifters, compatible with your cam choice.
  • Rebuilt German Flywheel, fully balanced. Lightening an option too!
  • Chromoly Gland Nut
  • Chromoly 8mm Head Studs
  • New Pistons, Cylinders, Rings (Balanced, of course!)
  • NEW Cylinder Heads (NOT REBUILT JUNK!), with HD Valve Springs. L3 or L5 Head upgrade optional!
  • High Quality Bolt-On Rocker Shaft Kit, to eliminate reliability hassles with stock horseshoe clips and wavy washers.
  • OEM German Valve Covers and Bails, Powdercoated Black.
  • Stainless Steel Push Rod Tubes
  • 26mm Oil Pump. Full Flow Oiling is optional (If selected, Oil Filter and Oil Filter Base are included!)
  • Full Engine is Micro-Balanced to a Race Specification for the smoothest running engine possible!
  • Compression set to customer's request (we can assist with this decision if needed).
We equip these engines with either Stock Dual Port heads or our L3 Ported Head, both of which are designed to work with stock sized exhaust and heater boxes, without overheating or tuning problems!
These engines are complete from valve cover to valve cover, but do NOT come with a clutch, pressure plate, fuel system, intake, cooling, ignition, or exhaust parts. The mounting stud for the thermostat is NOT INSTALLED NOR TAPPED, but the case does have the boss in place for drilling and tapping to install this stud (we recommend the functional thermostat be installed).
These have Solid Lifters and need to be adjusted just like the engine you have now (set at .006" cold).
VW Beetle and Ghia Sedans can use any of the available bore sizes, from 88 to 94mm. VW Beetle Convertibles, THINGs, Busses, and Type 3s should use the 92mm THICK WALL Bore (1835cc), 90.5mm Bore (1776cc), or MACHINE IN 88mm Thickwall Bore (1679cc).

SHIPPING/DELIVERY INFO:
DELIVERY OF LONGBLOCKS IS VIA TRUCK FREIGHT. Be aware that trucking companies do NOT like driving into residential neighborhoods, and they charge a hefty surcharge for both residential and rural delivery. We strongly suggest you you instruct us to mark your shipment "HOLD FOR PICKUP AT TERMINAL", as that is typically the most economical option. But be advised that if you do not live in or near a major metropolitan area, it is not uncommon for you to have to drive many miles to get to the nearest freight terminal. We are not responsible for any drive you may have to make to P/U your engine. Another alternative is to specify delivery to a commercial/business address (which will typically save you around $100 in freight surcharges), but the headache with this option is that YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO BE PRESENT AT TIME OF DELIVERY in order to ensure that proper inspection is done prior to signing for acceptance of your longblock (once you sign, any carrier damage to the product is NOT covered by warranty!!).

Installation instructions are NOT included. We recommend that you get yourself a copy of the Bentley Manual for your vehicle and keep it on hand reference and instruction on the basics. This manual also covers how to R&R an engine for your vehicle. If you are new to working on VWs and installing your own longblock, you should be prepared for the "learning curve". The build labor for your ACN LONGBLOCK includes building up to and including the valve covers.

We will also include installation of the following items IF you also purchase the following items at the same time as your longblock is purchased. Be sure to mention in your order notes that you want AVAILABLE ADDITIONAL ITEMS INSTALLED:
  • a) Clutch Disc, Pressure Plate, and Pressure Plate Bolt/Washer (all must be ordered to allow for installation)
  • b) Distributor, Distributor Drive Pinion, Distributor and compatible coil and plug wires (all must be ordered to allow for installation)
  • c) Crank Pulley, Pulley Tin, and Crank Pulley Nut/Washer (all must be ordered to allow for installation)
Although you may order other items to be shipped with your longblock (which would then qualify for the 10% additional items with longblock discount), we do NOT install or assemble any other items onto a longblock for you prior to shipment because of safety-in-transit reasons. Some other companies offer and will ship "Turnkey engines" (fully assembled), but they are substantially more expensive and we believe it doesn't make sense to "assemble" a full turnkey motor remotely without the car available. Besides, half the fun of owning an aircooled VW is bolting the pretty stuff on!

Wanted to let you know we just completed our annual iron butt continental crossing with our new Dune Buggy with the 1776 we bought from you.  Performed flawlessly even in the heat of Death Valley with ambient temperature of 124°F!  We covered 7,296 miles, 19 States, 2 Provinces in an 18 day solo road trip.

We managed to hit 83MPH on the interstate and could sustain 80MPH with ease.  Our fuel consumption was 24MPG, and we now have close to 9,000 miles on this new Dune Buggy (and engine).
