OUR ONLINE CHECKOUT is CLOSED and we are NOT accepting any NEW orders at this time.

We are still fulfilling and shipping previously submitted and/or delayed order requests (as product availability allows) UNTIL NOVEMBER 15th 2022.

But after November 15th, all still pending backordered unshipped items will be automatically CANCELLED **(except for any special ordered drop-shipped or made/machined-to-order items).

Our ability to respond to emails is greatly hampered by being under-staffed during this downsize transition time. But we continue to endeavor to answer email inquiries as best we can. And we will continue responding to emails through until early March 2023 because we are wholly committed to resolving any other issues that may arise from previous sales. It is still UNCERTAIN, but we may re-open a substantially downsized version of our store again in the Spring of 2023.

We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding during this period of restructuring and/or closing. And a huge thank you to all of you whose support and loyalty we have been the beneficiary of over the 23 years that we have worked diligently to support the information and parts needs of the aircooled VW community!

Solex, Kadron, Brosol, and Bocar Idle Jet, Micro Sized
Solex, Kadron, Brosol, and Bocar Idle Jet, Micro Sized

Solex, Kadron, Brosol, and Bocar Idle Jet, Micro Sized are a new product that we import, for people that are attempting to do a "Perfect tune" on their Kadron or Solex carburetors. These are more expensive, but you can get the tune PERFECT! Now that people are actually dialing in their carbs properly, we are getting a lot of requests for specifically sized jets. In years past people just ran pig rich and didn't care, but people are a lot more attentive and making the effort for a good tune, which is really nice to see. Idle jets are one of the simplest to access, and therefore the most commonly screwed-up parts on aircooled Volkswagen engines. It's located on the outside of the carburetor body, towards the top, usually on the right side of the carb. It's a brass hex-headed screw, so it's pretty obvious. Bubba Mechanic's often remove this jet and drill it to whatever size bit they have lying around the tree, because "they don't want to be lean". And they aren't lean, they are pig rich! If you don't have a set of jet gauges or micro drill bits to measure with, get a new jet in the size you want. This is one more thing to ensure your engine is running the way it is supposed to!

Jets are sized in "millimeters", so a "50" jet is very close to .5mm. Actually they are rated on flow not size, after they are measured on a flow machine. That's why drilling and reaming jets is not necessarily a good idea, since drilling or reaming can result in a 55 idle flowing more than a 60 idle, based on orifice length and entry/exit radius, etc.

Aircooled.Net are VW jetting experts, and will help you jet your carb(s) properly! We carry the jets, and more importantly, the knowledge and experience to get you the correct jets without you buying a bunch of jets you will not use!

Aircooled.Net are jetting experts, and will help you jet your carb(s) properly! We carry a lot of jets and sizes that other places do not. Many times jets have been drilled and/or reamed to a size different than stamped, so we always recommend buying new jets if you aren't sure, and do not have tool access to verify their size. Solex, Kadron, Brosol, and Bocar Idle Jets are screwed into the outside of the carburetor, they are not internal, so jet changes are fast and easy!

Item Features
Kadrons, use a 50-55 idle jets, Kadrons often run much better on a 50 or 52.5 than a 55. Also know that there are a lot of guys running 60 and 65 idles on their Kadrons, and those are the guys that fail their emissions tests and get 17mpg instead of 35. While many do not care about emmisions (especially if it's not required anymore for your year), it also means they are washing the oil off their cylinders, and this results in a massive increase in piston, ring, and cylinder wear due to oil dillution. Gasoline is a crappy lubricant!

Solex, Brosol, or Bocar 34-3, or 30/31, use a 65 idle, and a 50 power jet. This seems wierd, but it's because of the construction of the idle and progression circuit (most guys have never ever bothered to look at it closely), which uses both jets (Combined area), in conjunction with 2 big idle air bleeds. The Idle Jet and Power Jet are interchangable, but are different sizes. These are often switched on carbs by guys that think the idle jet should be small and the power jet should be big! Make sure the Power Jet (small one) is to the rear, and the Idle Jet (big one) is in the front .

30 Series carbs should use a 50-55 idle jet.

If you are at elevation, your engine will be happier with a smaller idle jet. Go down "1" for every 1k' above sea level you are at. So Denver (5k') will be a "-5" from a sea level jetting on the idle jet.

The engine's idle will be based on the IDLE MIXTURE SCREW. Because of this characteristic, it's possible to be idling too lean with a 70 idle jet, yet too rich with a 45 idle jet, depending on how the idle mixture screw is adjusted!

So the idle jet size should be selected based on how it DRIVES on the progression circuit (not how it idles), which are throttle conditions from off-idle to around 1/3 throttle. Obviously a Wideband or a 5-gas Analyzer are best for this, please read our Wideband Tuning article for more insight!
