Aircooled.Net Super-Stock Single Port VW Engine Long Block, 74mm Counterweighted Crankshaft, Type 1, 2, and 3, 1800cc, 1904cc, 1968cc, or 2054cc is the ideal engine for you guys that want a little more power without any risk of reliability issues that so many performance engines suffer from!

For Type 2s OR Convertibles, we recommend either the 1800cc or 1968cc sizes, since these sizes have the thickest cylinder walls! These simply hold up better in Type 2s, which are running WOT more than in the lighter Type 1s.

One tip: you can run a dual port intake manifold center section, and the single port end castings, to allow a better flowing 34-3 carb!
This long block is a far nicer engine that the "Magazine Engines" you see for sale for seemingly incredible prices. These long blocks will fit all cars, but the real intended use we designed them for are for single port beetles and busses, where you want to keep it simple! They are low RPM, torquey engines, with a power band which ends at 4000 RPMs. However, with the parts used these engines will safely rev to 5500 RPMs (so you know).

We have specifically designed these engines to be stock width, so your single port intake and stock cooling tin will bolt right on!

NEW MEANS NEW! Our new engines have NEW parts. Other "new" longblocks you might be looking at are actually "Rebuilt" and those often contain a lot of used parts. "Rebuilt" is subject to some creative Interpretation, and some rebuilders will even go so far as to sell you a "re-assembled" engine, so watch out! Those low budget "Rebuilders" get used parts, clean, paint, install, then call it "Rebuilt", to sell to customer! The only REBUILT component that we might have occasion to use on our longblocks are the top quality DPR Rebuilt German crankshafts, Flywheels, and/or Connecting Rods. Rebuilt components, if used, are done to race specification for the smoothest and most reliable engine possible.

This new ACN LONGBLOCK features:
  • NEW OEM VW Engine Case (not rebuilt JUNK)
  • Chromoly Forged 74mm Counterweighted Crankshaft.
  • 4340 Chromoly I-beam Connecting Rods
  • Your Cam Grind of choice (specify in special instructions during checkout, or have us decide!; we will assist in any engine specification decisions you may have).
  • New lifters, compatible with your cam choice.
  • Rebuilt German Flywheel, fully balanced.
  • Chromoly Gland Nut
  • Chromoly 8mm Head Studs
  • New Pistons, Cylinders, Rings (Balanced, of course!)
  • NEW Cylinder Heads (NOT REBUILT JUNK!), with HD Valve Springs.
  • High Quality Bolt-On Rocker Shaft Kit, to eliminate reliability hassles with stock horseshoe clips and wavy washers.
  • OEM German Valve Covers and Bails, Powder Coated Black.
  • Stainless Steel Push Rod Tubes
  • 26mm Oil Pump. Full Flow Oiling is optional (If selected, a plugged oil pump, plugged, drilled and tapped case, full flow pump cover, 1 90 degree fitting, and 2 -8 flares are included. You will still need to order Oil Fittings and Oil Hose separately.)
  • Full Engine is Micro-Balanced to a Race Specification for the smoothest running engine possible!
  • Compression set to customer's request (we can assist with this decision if needed).
This engine will work with the stock carb, intake, and even the stock exhaust! It will make more power and run cooler with a mild street header though.

These engines are complete from valve cover to valve cover, but do NOT come with a clutch, pressure plate, fuel system, intake, cooling, ignition, or exhaust parts. The mounting stud for the thermostat is NOT INSTALLED NOR TAPPED, but the case does have the boss in place for drilling and tapping to install this stud (we recommend the functional thermostat be installed).
These have Solid Lifters and need to be adjusted just like the engine you have now (set at .006" cold).
VW Beetle and Ghia Sedans can use any of the available bore sizes, from 88 to 94mm. VW Beetle Convertibles, THINGs, Busses, and Type 3s should use the 92mm THICK WALL Bore (1968cc), 90.5mm Bore (1904cc), or MACHINE IN 88mm Thick Wall Bore (1800cc).

SHIPPING/DELIVERY INFO: Be aware that trucking companies do NOT like driving into residential neighborhoods. We strongly suggest you have a commercial address to deliver the engine to, it will save you $100 in freight. Alternatively, you can pick up the engine at the freight terminal, but it is not uncommon for you to have to drive 50-80 miles away to get to the terminal. We are not responsible for any drive you may have to make to P/U your engine, we suggest you submit a commercial address to ship to, it makes everything easier all around.

The build labor for your ACN LONGBLOCK includes building up to and including the valve covers.

We will also include installation of the following items IF you also purchase the following items at the same time as your longblock is purchased. Be sure to mention in your order notes that you want AVAILABLE ADDITIONAL ITEMS INSTALLED:
  • a) Clutch Disc, Pressure Plate, and Pressure Plate Bolt/Washer (all must be ordered to allow for installation)
  • b) Distributor, Distributor Drive Pinion, Distributor and compatible coil and plug wires (all must be ordered to allow for installation)
  • c) Crank Pulley, Pulley Tin, and Crank Pulley Nut/Washer (all must be ordered to allow for installation)
Although you may order other items to be shipped with your longblock (which would then qualify for the 10% additional items with longblock discount), we do NOT install or assemble any other items onto a longblock for you prior to shipment because of safety-in-transit reasons. Some other companies offer and will ship "Turnkey engines" (fully assembled), but they are substantially more expensive and we believe it doesn't make sense to "assemble" a full turnkey motor remotely without the car available. Besides, half the fun of owning an aircooled VW is bolting the pretty stuff on!
