NOTICE

Please read this notice and only continue if you are willing to abide by our updated backorder acquisition and fulfillment terms of service.

Supply-chain disruptions have hampered our ability to acquire/restock items reliably. Additionally, a lack of backorder ETA information is a frustrating "new normal" for our hobby. As a result, we have had to change our BACKORDER ACQUISITION TERMS OF SERVICE. If you opt to have us "send backorders later", backordered items will ship automatically if we are able to get them within 30 days. Longer than 30 day backorders WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED. Made-to-order, Special-Order, and Direct-shipped items may take longer than 30 days, and will NOT be auto-canceled.

On the next page, you will be prompted to select a BACKORDER HANDLING INSTRUCTION for your Order Request. In every case, you are NOT CHARGED for out-of-stock items (we ONLY charge for items that are available to be shipped in a timely or reasonably reliable timeframe). If you opt to "send backorders later" you are automatically added to the waitlist for those items, and we post stock status / backorder info to your Order Status/Progress/History Detail View in your online Customer Account. You can email to cancel un-shipped/un-paid items at any time as long as they are not direct-shipped, special order or made/machined-to-order.

Currently many shipments are delayed and our response time to emails are slow (we are severely short-staffed). Please trust that even if we can't reply to your email promptly, we are continuing to work to fulfill your Order Request as best we can, and we will contact you once we have any new information that is not already posted in your online Order Progress/History area in your customer account.

Please only continue if you are prepared to be PATIENT. Some of the items in your cart might be out-of-stock, and if that is the case, within a day or two we will post itemized stock status information to your account and/or email you to let you know. We appreciate your continued support and understanding.

MSD (Mallory) Ignition Coil, Chrome, .7 Ohm (CDI Compatible), MD8200 (supercedes Mallory 29216)

MSD (Mallory) Ignition Coil, Chrome, .7 Ohm (CDI Compatible), MD8200 (supercedes Mallory 29216) is a great coil to use with the Mallory Hyfire CDI Boxes, when you want to retain a stock looking coil instead of the Promaster style! Low impedance ensures minimal heat within the coil.

Its higher voltage allows larger spark plug gaps or firing through plug fouling. However, we ALWAYS recommend stock plug gaps, even with monster ignition system power.

A 3 Ohm Coil Impedance is compatible with points, and points replacement devices, in 12V electrical systems. We recommend you check your existing coil, so first make sure you have 12V going to the terminal 15 on the coil (Terminal 15 is positive, terminal 1 is negative (think of 1 sideways being negative). If you do, then pull the wire out of the center of the distributor with a rubber handled pair of pliers, and hold it about 1/4" from the metal clips that holds the distributor cap on. Have someone crank over the engine, and there should be a nice blue spark that goes from the end of the wire you pulled out of the center of the cap to the metal clip. It should look and sound strong, and should be easy to see, even in daylight. If it looks thin and weak (yellow is weak, blue is strong), then the coil windings may be giving out.

Another test for your coil is to use an Ohmmeter and with all the wires taken off the terminals of the coil attach the positive and negative, red and black, wires of the meter to first the small terminals (Positive and Negative) that are printed or stamped on the coil. You should have a reading of at least 3-4.5 ohms, which is the resistance reading inside the coil. A bad coil will show a higher reading than 3-4.5, you want less resistance.

Next, place the red or black lead from the meter to the center of the coil (secondary post), and to either one of the terminals, again 1 or 15 on the coil. You want 9500-10000 Ohms, sometimes you'll see less, but you don't want to see something like 11,000. Or if you have no reading in either case, the coil is trash and in need of replacement.
